Thanks for stopping by! I'm so happy you've found my little corner of the internet where I share our home projects as well as dive into lifestyle content.

Hi, I'm Yami

Whelp, I’m doing it guys. I’ve officially signed up for the Fall ORC! If you don’t know what it is, you can head over to their site for more info. The basic premise is you choose one room in your home to makeover over the course of six weeks. Every week you post your progress and you can follow along with all of the other designers (and non designers!) to see what they’re up to. There are a set of ‘featured designers” and everyone else is considered a “guest participant” which is what I am.

So which room am I doing?

Well, if you follow me on Instagram you already know lol. I’ve decided to tackle an empty corner of our basement. We finished one side of the basement last year but haven’t done much to really define the living zones. The left side is currently a big open square and our plans include adding a dry bar down there with a mini fridge. That way, we have a spot to store movie night snacks and some of our alcohol. Here’s a quick before and after of when we first finished the space:

I haven’t created a mood board for the space and to be honest, it’s because I haven’t yet finalized what color I am going to do the base cabinets. I know I want a two-tone look but I’m leaning more towards a darker color to warm up the space. The current wall and floor colors make it very cool feeling so I need to counter that. I’ve been looking at deep blues and greens and of course, black. I think once I have the cabinets in, I’ll make a decision. I mean, I’ll have to either way lol. So here are the goals for this space. My to-do list if you will:

  • Dry bar – Install base cabinets, mini fridge and upper shelving
  • Wall feature – Probably tile
  • A game table – We like to play board games and I want to DIY a table down here just for that purpose

Depending on how long those take me, I may or may not have time to do these extras:

  • Jazz up the bathroom – The walls need some love
  • Paint behind the tv and finish styling the shelves
  • Build some better toy organization on the other side

People always ask me how I have time to do all this stuff and it just boils down to the fact that I don’t watch much tv right now or do anything else once I get in the zone. I make it a priority and have to keep chugging along until it’s complete. During the summer, the other two kids would keep an eye on Noah for me and now that he’s back in daycare, I take advantage of that time. Also, yes I have a full time job, but the tempo is ridiculously slow right now and I’m honesty not super busy.

Another question I get, and why a lot pf people assume I’m single, is if my husband helps me. He leaves this kind of stuff to me and I prefer it that way honestly. I’m a bit more patient with figuring stuff out and he’s there to help me with an extra hand if I need it so, it works out. Plus, he’s super busy at work and the last thing he wants to do when he’s off is manual labor lol.

I hope you have fun following along for the next six weeks to see how much I can get done! I’m doing this in real time for the first time and am excited and nervous all in one!
